In 1985 the author of this book visited what was then known as Alderwood Retreat. Stan transported several hunters to some sweet spots in Kupreanoff Straits & they all managed to harvest some trophy bucks from the mountainsides during their hunt. A couple years later Batin wrote this book with an amazing array of information & advice about the varied techniques he's used in hunting for birds & big game in the Last Frontier. Here are several quotes from his book:
"If I had to choose one location to hunt deer in Alaska, I'd choose Kodiak."
"Statistics show that boats are involved in about half of the Kodiak deer harvest."
"This unit is a favorite with southcentral & interior hunters, with annual harvests from 8,000 to 10,000 deer. Populations are increasing due to light mortality & mild winters." This book is well-written, easy to read & full of valuable insights on how to increase the odds of success in a challenging environment.
