Originally a deer-hunting & sport-fishing wilderness lodge known as Alderwood Retreat, our forty acres of remote wilderness property is situated on the north shore of Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. Now called Mystic Mountain, our focus has changed to reflect our increased commitment to teaching people how to live sustainably. We are authentically off-grid, with no roads in or out, no internet, no television & no telephone service! We are always on the lookout for folks who have the grit to succeed in this unforgiving environment...if you think you're one of them, inquire about our coveted positions for permanent residency here at Mystic Mountain!
Many low-impact, high energy activities can be enjoyed in the "Outback of Alaska!" Contact us to arrange your own customized eco-adventure tour of a lifetime! Go hiking, kayaking, beachcombing, relax on a deck overlooking the ocean or in our hammock, take a marine tour past a bird rookery & otter nursery, & end your day steaming in a wood-fired sauna! The F/V Woody, owned & operated by Captain Stan Duncan, is a 1969 wooden salmon seiner. It is 55-feet long, has a beam of 16' & offers three deck levels of living & working space. Stan has been fishing since he was 13 & has owned his own boats since he was 18. He now fishes only for about 2 months each summer, primarily the peak of the season, spending the rest of the summer at the family's off-grid homestead.
